By Sarah Hannan The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) reported that for the month of June, the highest number of cases reported from a single area is recorded from Biyagama, with a total of 15 cases. NDCU Director Dr. Anura Jayasekara, speaking to The Morning, said: "Looking at the daily reports that are at hand, I can confirm that this is the highest number of cases reported from one single area. The overall number of cases reported across the country for the first three weeks of the month amount to 1,056, with the highest number of cases for June reported from the Kandy RDHS (Regional Director of Health Services) amounting to 239." When asked about the eradication programmes that are carried out, Dr. Jayasekara noted that starting from today (25), a three-day eradication programme will be carried out at construction sites. Construction sites have been identified as potential dengue mosquito breeding grounds by the NDCU. Apart from that, the RDHS, with the assistance of the respective Medical Officer of Health (MOH), carries out fumigating processes in areas where dengue cases are reported.
