The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has commenced an investigation into the fire which erupted onboard merchant vessel MSC CAPETOWN III in the early hours of yesterday (11).
According to Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairperson Keith Bernard, the fire aboard the box ship had been quickly doused by the Port Fire Unit and others, and an investigation into the incident was launched. When asked by The Daily Morning if a report will be provided soon, Bernard said that a comprehensive report will take some time to prepare and that the ship's agents and the insurers will also hold their inquiries.
The fire broke out on the box carrier while she was anchored at JCT 4 jetty in Colombo Port. The vessel which had arrived at Colombo from the Port of Singapore and was supposed to unload 995 containers and load 880 containers, according to the Authority.
