The rekindled fire of yesterday (7) has grown to a major fire on the distressed vessel MT New Diamond today (8) due to the intense heat emanating from the engine room. An expert team has currently been dispatched to control the current situation, stated Sri Lanka Navy Media Spokesperson Captain Indika De Silva in a media statement. The Disaster Management Center stated that the fire is under control and steps are being implemented to reduce the risks of aggravation.
