
Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga today resigned from her post of Chairperson of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation(ONUR).
ONUR was set up with the commitment to achieve national unity and reconciliation. This was a key feature of January 2015 Presidential campaign.
To give effect to this commitment, the Government of Sri Lanka established the ONUR
The resolution was moved by the Prime Minister; approved by the Cabinet and established under President. ONUR has been under the purview of the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation.
Kumaratunga along with SLFP member Kumara Welgama was instrumental in organizing the 'Api Sri Lanka convention', an SLFP rebel convention that urged SLFP supporters to refrain from casting their votes to SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
