Among the areas worst affected are Batticaloa, Kilinochchi, Ampara, and Puttalam, while Jaffna, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Polonnaruwa have also been affected.
Our reporter in Puttalam said that the drought in the area had destroyed crops and affected the livelihoods of families in the area.
The Disaster Management Centre said that the drought had affected 30,408 people in Jaffna, 33,185 people in Kilinochchi, 29,421 in Mannar, 14,671 in Puttalam, and 32,409 in Batticaloa.
