Former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara, who was tested positive for COVID-19, has been taken to the COVID-19 treatment centre at Gallella in Polonnaruwa, Prison officials said.
They said all COVID-19 positive inmates from the Mahara Prison have been taken to Gallella.
According to PHIs, 16 personnel at the Mahara Prison have tested positive for COVID-19 so far.
