Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was not present at the 72nd National Independence Day celebrations held at the Independence Square today(4).
When The Sunday Morning contacted Fonseka he said he was on the way to another event that was pre-planned.
He added that attendance at the National Independence Day celebrations was not compulsory.
However, former Air Force Commander Roshan Goonetileke and former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda who were recently awarded honorary ranks were present at the occasion. (ZG)
