Kickstarting Tourism : 3 tour groups ready to visit

28 Oct 2020

By Skandha Gunasekara A total of three international tour groups have been organised by the Ministry of Tourism in an effort to kickstart tourism, The Morning learnt. Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga said that the two groups, from Germany and Australia, had also been scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in November and December this year. “We made arrangements for a group of 200-odd Germans to visit Sri Lanka in November. This was a high-end tourist group as some had even proposed to fly by private jet. Another group from Australia was also in the pipeline,” the Minister said. He said these two groups were in addition to a large number of Russian tourists set to visit the island in November. “Around 40,000 Russians were to come as well,” he added. However, he said that all plans have been put on hold until the recent coronavirus outbreak is contained and pacified. “Everything has been halted because of the Covid-19 situation on the ground. We are awaiting the green light from the health authorities to recommence.”
