Mahindananda should complain to ICC with evidence: Harin

20 Jun 2020

Former United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Harin Fernando has urged former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage to complain to the International Cricket Council (ICC) with evidence over his shocking claim that the ICC World Cup 2011 final was fixed. Fernando taking to his twitter handle yesterday said, "Former Sports Minister Mahindananda rather than making unsubstantiated wild allegations he should complain to ICC with evidence as I did when I was the Sports Minister on a different fixing approach." Fernando served as the Sports Minister in the Yahapalana regime. Following Aluthgamage’s claims on Thursday the Sports Ministry Secretary yesterday called for an immediate inquiry. Aluthgamage alleged that Sri Lanka should have won the final. He said that the game was fixed resulting in India coming out victorious under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Mahela Jayawardena, who was part of the 2011 World Cup final Sri Lanka team, however, rubbished the claims. “Is the elections around the corner? Looks like the circus has started. names and evidence?” Jayawardena tweeted.
