Mangala Samaraweera passes away due to Covid-19

Former Minister Mangala Samaraweera passed away at a private hospital in Colombo while being treated for Covid-19. At the time of his demise, Samaraweera was 65 years old. It was reported on the August 13 that the former Minister tested positive for Covid-19. Samaraweera entered politics from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party as its chief organiser in Matara in 1983 and then ascended up the ranks. More recently, he was the Minister of Finance from 2017 to 2019, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, for two terms from 2005 to 2007 and 2015 to 2017.
