Colombo National Hospital Director Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe stated that up to 200 PCR tests can be conducted in the PCR laboratory established at the hospital, and that PCR test results can be issued within five hours.
The laboratory commenced operations yesterday (12). So far, the Colombo National Hospital has had to obtain the assistance of the Medical Research Institute and the Mulleriyawa Hospital to conduct PCR tests.
“This will also help expedite urgent medical treatment and surgeries conducted at the Hospital,” Dr. Wickramasinghe said.
The Tissa de Silva Foundation has donated Rs. 13 million for equipment needed for this laboratory, while Hemas has provided a PCR machine worth Rs. 5 million. Documents on the ownership of the laboratory were handed over to Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
