Over 34,500 curfew violators arrested so far

21 Apr 2020

The Police have arrested 34,500 curfew violators and seized 8,800 vehicles since curfew restrictions were imposed on March 20, according to DIG Ajith Rohana. 650 individuals have been arrested and 165 vehicles have been seized by the police during the last 24 hours. The Police have warned that curfew violators will be arrested without a warrant and that bail will not be granted to those who have been arrested. Seized vehicles will be only released once the Coronavirus threat is eliminated, the Police said. The government imposed a nation-wide curfew with the intention of minimizing public movement in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
