Pavithra praised by WHO, UN

Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health, has been commended by the United Nations and International Organizations in Sri Lanka on the steps taken to control the COVID-19 epidemic in the country. This was stated at a special discussion held by a group of representatives of international organizations in Sri Lanka with the Minister of Health on the future health development program of Sri Lanka. The discussion was held at the Ministry of Health yesterday (02). Dr. Razia Pendse, Resident Representative of the World Health Organization in Sri Lanka, and Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, Hana Singer, International Technical Specialist, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Jairo Andres Villamil-Diaz, Policy Expert and Team Leader of the United Nations Development Program, Fadhil BakeerMarkar, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Environmental, Political, Agricultural Sciences and Sun Xuebing represented those organizations. Representatives of all international organizations expressed their support to the Minister of Health for all future health development activities implemented by the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka. It was also agreed to provide financial assistance for the expansion of public health services. Xuebing of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization said that the UN will provide the necessary support to implement a food security programme targeting the children of Sri Lanka in the future. Fadhil BakeerMarkar said that a programme has been set up to implement infrastructure and special projects in Sri Lankan hospitals. Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi expressed her gratitude to the new Government, including His Excellency the President, and to all international organizations that support the implementation of health development programmes in Sri Lanka. Health Secretary Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe was also present at the occasion.
