Random Rapid Antigen Testing at Western Province borders from this morning

The Health Ministry has decided to conduct random Rapid Antigen Testing of the passengers crossing the borders of the Western Province from today morning. Dr. G. Sudath K. Dharmaratne, Deputy Director General (Laboratory Services), has conveyed this to the Provincial Directors of Health Services of the Province in a letter yesterday. It said random Rapid antigen tests will be done to identify risk of passengers in three locations of the province and to prevent the COVID-19 virus from spreading in outer regions. This will be facilitated by the police department and respective regional directors of health services are required to send teams to three identified locations to do the Antigen testing. The three exit location are; Nittambuwa along the Kandy - Colombo Road, Salawa, Kosgama along the Avissawella - Colombo Road and Katunayake along the Colombo - Chilaw Road. “This programme should be started from December 18 from 8 am and it should be carried out daily until further notice," Dr. Dharmaratne said. Meanwhile, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena told The Morning that the Antigen tests will be random as passengers of all vehicles would not be subjected to tests at exit locations.
