The public has been requested to report fraudsters using President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's name to exert influence and derive favours from officials of government institutes. "It has come to light that certain individuals are using the President's name, forging his signature and submitting forged documents to exert influence on officials of Ministries, Departments and Government Corporations," the President's Media Division (PMD) said in a statement. PMD said information about such scammers should be provided to the Presidential Secretariat. PMD said complaints should be directed to Presidential Secretariat Director General (Administration) Major General (Retired) K.B. Egodawele on 0112354479/0112354354 hotlines. A person was recently taken into custody by the Police for allegedly forging the President's signature and misusing President’s letterheads. The suspect who was under interdiction, had produced a letter to the Chairman of Bank of Ceylon on a Presidential letterhead with the forged signature of the President requesting to reinstate him with his salary, allowances and a promotion.
