By Skandha Gunasekara A total of over Rs. 30 billion is owed to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) by consumers for the past three months. “For the months of March, April, and May, the total amount left to be paid by consumers is Rs. 30 billion or more,” CEB Chairman Vijitha Herath told The Sunday Morning. He said that on average, the total consumer cost for a month was around Rs. 20 billion. “Around 75% of April arrears have been paid and now consumers have started paying for the month of May. However, there is a huge amount left to come in for March,” he said. He said that reports of the total for the last three months being Rs. 3 billion was incorrect, adding that “Rs. 3 billion is a meagre amount”. He then noted that the Government dues are far less. “The Government’s electricity bill is far less as there were only a few offices functioning.”
