A special discussion was held with the participation of Wanniarachchi, Minister of Production, Supply, and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana, and WHO Resident Representative in Sri Lanka Dr. Razia Pendse. Secretary to the Ministry of Health Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Asela Gunawardena, additional secretaries to the Ministry of Health, and a number of officials were present at the meeting. “The vaccination that is to be administered to a section of the country's population will be more of a preventive measure rather than a cure for those who are already infected. We have appointed a technical committee which will be headed by Secretary to the Ministry of Health Maj. Gen. Sanjeewa Munasinghe,” Minister of Health Wanniarachchi told The Morning. The technical committee is expected to submit a report of their findings to the Minister, which will then be forwarded to the WHO through Dr. Pendse for consideration.
