The Government is to introduce a new RF (radio frequency) code for vehicle number plates which would enable authorities faster access to vehicle information.
State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services, Carriages, and Automotive Industries Dilum Amungama, said the new regulations were to be gazetted.
“They will come into effect as soon as the new system is gazetted.”
He explained that the RF code would replace the current method of provincial identification on number plates.
“The present system where the number plates display the province which the vehicle belongs to will be done away with and the RF code will be added. Authorities can simply scan the code and obtain all the necessary information, such as which province it belongs to, ownership, etc.,” he said. Vehicle number plates to change
