Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Opposition Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa yesterday (26) criticised the Government for importing inferior coal, warning the resulting losses should not be passed on to the public.
Speaking to the media in Kandy, he said that his Party had repeatedly opposed the import of inferior coal and questioned why renewable power plants were rejected instead of developing local wind energy projects.
He added that despite positive proposals to attract investors for the Mannarama wind power plant, the Government had ignored them. “No matter how many positive proposals we made, the Government brought inferior coal and imposed that hardship on the people,” he said.
He also highlighted that it is unfair to raise oil and electricity prices to cover losses from poor Government decisions.
