President Anura Kumara Dissanayake affirmed his commitment to take all necessary steps for national, religious, and social progress during a high-level meeting with the Maha Sangha in Kandy. He emphasised the importance of seeking the guidance of Buddhist clergy in the country’s governance.

The meeting, held at the President’s House in Kandy, brought together Anunayake Theros from the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters to discuss pressing national and religious concerns. The Maha Sangha urged timely reforms to laws such as the Buddhist Temporalities Ordinance and improvements in the education of monks.

A proposal was made to establish a Buddha Sasana Task Force Advisory Council to help safeguard Sri Lanka's religious values and cultural heritage. In response, President Dissanayake directed authorities to fast-track the required legal amendments.

Ministers Hiniduma Sunil Senevi and Harshana Nanayakkara were also present at the discussions.
