Govt. pushes ahead with Raigampura Industrial Zone to boost industrial space

Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe says the Government is fast-tracking the Raigampura Green Industrial Zone in Millaniya, Kalutara, to resolve the severe lack of industrial space in Sri Lanka. The project, stalled in the past, is now being reactivated to support national industrial and value-added production goals.

The Millaniya Industrial City is planned as an eco-friendly development, with only 87 of the approved 200 acres to be used for industrial purposes. A 100-acre buffer zone has been allocated for environmental protection.

The first phase involves a Rs. 3,837 million investment to develop 24 acres, creating 1,180 job opportunities. So far, Rs. 908 million has been spent, and 24 industries are expected to be established by 2026.

Abeysinghe emphasised that the Western Province faces a critical shortage of industrial land, with 173 industrialists requesting plots. He said this project would be carried out with public cooperation and minimal environmental impact.
