A 15-year-old wild elephant was killed by a Colombo–Batticaloa train near Sudunelum, Gallella, early this morning (18). 

Locals say the elephant had been roaming since 3 a.m., damaging crops. 

They allege that wildlife officials ignored their alerts, calling the death preventable.
