Cricket: Trinity in mammoth win over Antonians

  • 42nd Limited Overs Encounter – Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy

Trinity College beat St. Anthony’s College by 101 runs in their 42nd Limited Overs Encounter, which concluded at the Katugastota Oval (23) yesterday (23). 

Two fine half-centuries by Dimantha Mahavithana (55) and Supun Waduge (56) put Trinity a score of over 200 runs. 

Meanwhile, Janith Ravishka too made a useful unbeaten 41. Antonian skipper Thisara Ekanayake was on fire, taking 5 wickets for the Katugastota lads.

Antonians were supported by their Vice Captain Induruwa Galapitage, who scored 40, but they lost regular wickets and none of the other batters went for a big score. Trinity spinners Dinuka Tennakoon (3), Tharana Wimaladharma (3), and Malith Rathnayake (2) took the wickets.

This encounter was played for the Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy. The one-day series which commenced in 1980 records Trinity with a  tally of 20 wins against Antonians 17, along with one tie and four no-decisions.

Antonians was led by Thisara Ekanayake while national youth cricketer Manula Kularathne led the Trinity outfit. Kavinda Jayasuriya was the Head Coach of the Antonians outfit while Navin Ekanayake coached Trinity.

Former Antonian cricketer Daminda Kolugalla was the Chief Guest.
