- Nat’l Organiser says Working Comm. already discussing possible changes in responsibilities/organisers, with Sajith’s assent, to be effected prior to next poll
- Further comms. to be appointed to make recomms. on various related aspects
The main Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) stated that a party must undergo reorganising continuously, and that in the case of the SJB, such restructuring will take place following discussions within the Party’s recognised bodies rather than on the basis of the personal opinions of individual members.
Speaking to The Daily Morning, SJB National Organiser and Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said that a political party should always be reorganised after and before an election and that the process would be carried out systematically.
“There are many aspects that need change, not only positions. We will appoint committees and make the necessary changes according to their recommendations. These cannot be done according to the personal views of each person,” he said.
He added that several bodies within the party such as its Working Committee are already discussing the matter, with possible changes in responsibilities and regional level organisers being considered. Attanayake further noted that Party Leader Sajith Premadasa (also the Opposition Leader) is also in agreement that a thorough reorganisation is required ahead of the next elections.
SJB MP Chaminda Wijesiri recently called for the removal of certain senior office bearers, warning that the party could split into factions if major changes were not carried out. He said that he would soon reveal the names of those who, in his view, should be removed from their positions.
