Sri Lanka Rugby’s (SLR) Training, Development, and Education Programme of World Rugby (WR) kicked off from the Northern Province for the year 2024.
The below-mentioned programmes were conducted by WR-qualified educators under SLR.
- Training and education programme at Jaffna University for 30 participants – 24 January
- Training and education programme at Vavuniya University for 30 participants
All the above education programmes were conducted by WR Trainer Viper Gunaratne (coaching), Educator Ananda Kasthuriarachchi (strength and conditioning), and Anil Jayasinghe (match official).
The programmes were coordinated by SLR Director Development Shamrath Fernando, Administrator Roshan De Silva, and Travel and Expenses Manager Thanuja Weerakkody.
According to SLR, this is the first time in its 145-year history that an event of this scale involving training and development programmes was organised in the previously war-torn Northern Province region, which is a proud moment for rugby in Sri Lanka, Asian rugby, and world rugby. It is also noteworthy that WR just celebrated 200 years of rugby from 1823 to 2023.
