A newborn baby was found under a tree in a paddy field in Sinhapurapara, Mawathagama yesterday (18). 

A villager alerted police, who rescued the infant and admitted it to hospital. 

The baby, believed to be 1–2 days old, is in good health. 

Police are investigating the abandonment.
