750 jeeps for SL police from India

The Ministry of Public Security and the Government of India have entered an agreement to supply the Sri Lanka Police with 750 jeeps. This was made known through a media release from the Ministry of Public Security today (30). The statement mentioned that the purpose of the agreement was to strengthen ties between the two countries. Accordingly, the jeeps would be delivered in 3 phases with the first consignment of 250 jeeps arriving by the end of August, the second batch of 250 jeeps arriving by the end of September and the final 250 jeeps arriving by March 2023. The statement additionally mentioned that so far the Sri Lanka Police has acquired 2000 three wheelers, 72 other vehicles, and 150 motorcycles from Japan. Present at the signing of the agreement was Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Major General Jagath Alwis, Mahindra Motors Chairman Joydeep Moitera, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weeradekera and Police IP Chandana Wickramaratne.
