All Muslim Ministers have decided to resign from the Government, Minister Rauff Hakeem said today.
Hakeem, speaking on behalf of the Muslim leaders in Government at a press conference held today (03) at Temple Trees, stated that they will resign to ensure that safety, peace and security are maintained within the country.
"All Muslim Ministers will resign from their respective posts and maintain their positions as backbenchers in Parliament until the Government and security forces conduct their investigations thoroughly and completely. We are willing to provide our fullest support and co-operation to the State, our humble request is that the Government conclude all their necessary investigations and come to a firm conclusion within the period of a month."
Further, the Minister stated that if during this investigation any of the Members of Parliament are found guilty of having aided the attacks carried out on Easter Sunday, those individuals must face the fullest punishment.
"We hope that at least by our stepping down from our posts that the Muslim community will be spared from the constant harassment and hate speech that they have to experience on a daily basis for an act that they did not commit or support. We will not accept our posts until we observe that all forms of hate speech and harassment are void in society," Minister Kabir Hashim said.
