- Alleges deal between fmr. Minister Alles and President
- Claims that no action will be taken over wanted ex.CBSL Governor Mahendran
- Charges that Govt. is prepping to intimidate opposition voices through legal action
The Leader of the United Republic Front (URF), former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, claimed that a deal between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and former Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has prevented the arrest of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is temporarily suspended by the Supreme Court.
Speaking at a meeting held last week, Ranawaka said that the current Government will not take action against Alles, regardless of the crimes or murders he may allegedly commit. "Why has not Deshabandu been arrested? Tiran Alles is behind him. Anura Kumara Dissanayake will not take any action against Tiran Alles, no matter what crimes he commits, whether it is the E-Visa, E-passport, or any murder he commits. That is the deal," he charged.
He also claimed that no action would be taken against former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran under the current Government, claiming that there is a deal between the ruling party and Mahendran. "We can assure that no harm will come to former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran, as long as Anura Kumara Dissanayake is President. There is a hidden deal between them, " he added.
He further alleged that, while the Government is not taking action against the individuals mentioned as they promised, it is trying to victimise its opponents, including him. "We have been told by police officers and officers from the Attorney General's Department that they have been asked to file cases against us," he said.
Attempts made to contact the Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala regarding the allegations levelled by Ranawaka were unsuccessful.
