- Alleged threats including to family being investigated
Further investigations into the incident of the Colombo Crimes Division’s (CCD) Organised Crime Division Officer-In-Charge (OIC), Inspector of Police Duminda Jayathilaka leaving the country citing threats to his life will depend also on whether he returns to Sri Lanka.
Noting this, Police Media Spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police and attorney Nihal Thalduwa explained yesterday (6): “He has obtained official leave only until today (6). Therefore, we will have to wait and see whether he returns, and future actions will also depend on the actions that he takes following his return, if he returns.” He told The Daily Morning that additional investigations are in progress to look into the allegations that Jayathilaka had received threats, including against his family, from organised criminal figures.
Last month, it was reported that Jayathilaka left for France via the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake owing to the said threats. It was alleged that he had received threats from criminal figures such as Heenetiyana Mahesh and Kanjipani Imran, and the alleged audio clips of several such threats were circulated on social media. It is reported that Jayathilaka has led a number of investigations into high profile organised crimes.
