‘Denary Odyssey’ to showcase 10 distinct artistic voices

Denary Odyssey Group is showcasing the distinct and powerful voices of 10 contemporary artists at the upcoming visual art exhibition, ‘Denary Odyssey’. The exhibition will be held at the Harold Peires Gallery, Lionel Wendt Art Centre in Colombo 7 from 28-30 June.

The opening ceremony of ‘Denary Odyssey’ will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on 28 June, with the public viewings from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from 29-30 June. The collection will display the artists’ interpretations of their own adventures and experiences of life through art. Each artist will contribute a unique narrative with their use of distinct elements and materials to present their individual stories in a singular yet captivating allure.


Madusanka Dimal

Madusanka Dimal is a passionate artist whose creative journey explores the intersection of street art and installation, defining his unique expression. A graduate with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Dimal intricately combines stones and copper, meticulously selecting and carving rocks to achieve harmonious balance in form and shape. His detailed approach highlights the natural beauty of his materials, creating a dialogue between the organic and the crafted.


Rasika De Silva

Rasika De Silva is a distinguished artist who completed a three-year Fine Art Diploma at Sharadha Kala Nikethanaya in Colombo. With a prolific career featuring 11 solo exhibitions and participation in 16 group shows, Rasika’s work poignantly explores the complex relationship between humanity and the environment. His art delves into themes of conflict and division, portraying the delicate balance between man and nature, and the stark contrasts of human interactions.


Gayan Hemarathne

Gayan Hemarathne graduated in mechanical engineering from the Institute of Engineering Technology and completed his master’s at the University of Colombo. Moving to a new path in his educational journey, he followed a postgraduate diploma in archaeology at the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya, where he is currently pursuing a Master of Science. By day, Gayan is an engineer, but his true passion lies in abstract art and archaeological exploration. His art reflects a deep connection to both the abstract and the ancient, blending a kaleidoscope of hues and mediums to create expressions infused with spiritual consciousness.


Kavishwara Jayasekara

Kavishwara Jayasekara graduated from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in art history at the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya. Each of his works is subtly interpreted, encouraging the audience to reflect deeply and engage in meaningful dialogue. With boundless curiosity and commitment to making a positive impact, Kavishwara pushes the boundaries of artistic expression through his neo-traditional style.


Shanaka Kulathunga

Shanaka Kulathunga is a figurative artist whose work delves deep into the human experience and its intricate connection with nature. With a background as a doctor, he is currently pursuing a master’s in fine arts at the University of Kelaniya, Shanaka brings a unique perspective to his art. His paintings vividly depict the interactions, emotions, and bonds between humans and nature, exploring a wide range of expressions, from struggle and victory to pain and nostalgia.


Bani Manohansa

Bani Manohansa, born into a lineage of artistic prowess, emerges as a contemporary digital artist. With a Diploma in Multimedia from Wijeya Graphics and a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia from the National School of Business Management, Bani’s journey is steeped in a rich heritage of creativity. He inherits his artistic talent from his father, who is an airbrush artist, and his grandfather, a sculpture artist, nurturing a passion that transcends generations. Through his digital artworks, Bani seamlessly blends tradition with innovation, offering a contemporary perspective on the intersection of technology and art.


Namal Kumara

Namal Kumara is a graduate of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts. With a robust exhibition history, including two solo exhibitions and participation in 16 group shows, Namal’s work delves into the intricate psychological struggles faced by individuals amidst political, social, and cultural turmoil. His art captures the unsatisfied elements of the human psyche, portraying these internal conflicts through a unique blend of geometric shapes and abstract expression.


Mandira Ranathunga

Mandira Ranathunga graduated from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, where she now serves as an assistant lecturer. In this exhibition, she focuses on the theme of body shaming, employing a feminist perspective. Through her art, she interprets the human body, advocating that neither women nor men should be judged by their physical appearance. She believes every human body possesses unique beauty, and her work aims to celebrate these individual characteristics. Mandira’s art is a powerful commentary on body positivity and acceptance, encouraging viewers to embrace diversity and recognise the inherent beauty in all forms.


Anupa Perera

Anupa Perera, a graduate of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, is a dedicated art teacher whose passion for his craft extends beyond the classroom. With a background rooted in solo and group exhibitions, Anupa’s artistic journey is marked by a profound exploration of drawing materials. Guided by personal inclination and inherent skill, he believes in the dynamic interplay between artist and medium, where the material exerts its own force, shaping the creative process.


Chandana Gunathilake

Chandana Gunathilake, a graduate from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, is a prolific artist whose creative vision transcends boundaries. With a portfolio boasting a solo exhibition, 19 group exhibitions, and a prestigious international showcase in China, Chandana’s artistic journey is marked by a profound exploration of form and environment. His work revolves around the thematic exploration of sculpting human shapes, animal forms, and natural geometric elements within their surroundings. Through his art, Gunathilake channels his imagination to creatively reinterpret the world around him, breathing life into his creations with a unique blend of innovation and craftsmanship.
