Sri Lanka Test Captain Dhananjaya de Silva’s elder brother Savithra Rathmal de Silva has been admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Kalubowila in a critical state on Friday (10) night, according to the Mount Lavinia Police.

This was after Rathmal de Silva was injured in an attempt to evade a sword attack by an underworld gang at his Ratmalana residence, a source from the Police said.

According to the Police, an underworld gang that had forcibly entered Rathmal de Silva’s house had tried to assault the latter with a sword.

An attempt to avoid an attack to his head by one of the gangsters had resulted in Dhananjaya’s brother suffering a serious injury to his arm, initial inquiries conducted had revealed.

The Police added that when the Sri Lanka skipper’s sibling had attempted to retaliate, the suspects had fled the scene.

The Crimes Division of the Mount Lavinia Police is conducting investigations to apprehend the suspects.

The father of Dhananjaya and Rathmal de Silva, former SLPP Councillor of the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Ranjan de Silva, was gunned down close to his Mount Lavinia house seven years ago by an underworld gang.
