Revamped Oddusuddan Tile Factory to open by September

By Imsha Iqbal The revamping of the Oddusuddan Tile Factory is expected to be completed within the next two to three months’ time, The Morning Business learns. Speaking to us, Ministry of Industries Secretary V.P.K. Anusha Pelpita said: “It (the tile factory) is still under construction as it has not been used for almost 20 to 30 years, and I think in the next two to three months’ time, we can reopen it.” He stated that the machines that are used for the manufacturing process will be installed during the reconstruction process. “We have already installed factories in Mahiyanganaya and a few other locations,” he said, adding that the corporation has been able to open some of the factories that were closed down decades ago, including the one in Mahiyanganaya. Elaborating on expanding the companies that have been reopened for tile production, he said in the meantime, they are looking for an investor of wall tickles and floor tiles. Cabinet approval was granted in order to take the necessary action to reinitiate the production of the tile and brick manufacturing company on 5 February 2020. Recommencing production activities of the Oddusuddan Tile Factory is a pilot project in restructuring the Ceylon Ceramics Corporation under the Ministry of Industries, in accordance with the Government manifesto to reopen state-owned enterprises. The Oddusuddan Tile Factory is a tile and brick production factory situated in Oddusuddan in the Mullaitivu District. It is anticipated to manufacture approximately 400, 000 tiles and bricks per month.
