Lyceum and Walala in the lead


By the end of the second day of the All-Island School Games, the athletes had registered nine new school competition records.

By the end of the second day of this year’s tournament, Lyceum College Wattala had managed to take the lead in the boys’ school points table with 31 points. Rahula Vidyalaya, Matara secured second place with 27 points and St. Peter’s College, Colombo came third place with 22 points.

In the girls’ school division, Walala A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya took the lead with 42 points, while Lyceum College Wattala and Holy Cross College Gampaha are in the second and third positions, respectively.

This tournament is scheduled to end tomorrow (6).


St. Joseph Vaz and Ampara shine at school volleyball cup

The Sri Lanka School Volleyball Association and Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation together with DSI organised the “DSI Super Sports Volleyball” Series. St. Joseph Vaz College won the Under-19 Boys Championship, while Uhana Thissapura College, Ampara managed to win the girls’ championship.

The boys’ under-19 final attracted attention, where Wennappuwa Joseph Vas team managed to win that match 3-0, defeating Seeduwa Davissamara Vidyalaya.

Loyola College, Negombo won the boys’ championship in the under-17 age group, while the girls’ championship went to Vijayaba National School, Hungama.


Lakshman De Alwis Memorial Athletics Championships on 18 December


Sri Lak Athletic Club’s Lakshan De Alwis Memorial Athletics Championships will be held on 18 December at the Sugathadasa International Stadium in Colombo.

The championship is named in tribute to the pioneer founder of the Sri Lak Athletic Club, former National Coach Late Lakshman De Alwis. 

The Sri Lak Athletic Club has produced many international medal-winning athletes since its inception in 1972, including Olympians Sriyantha Dissanayake, Vijitha Amarasekara, V.K.L. Samarasinghe, Sarath Gamage, Benildus Fernando, Nimmi De Soysa, and other international-level athletes such as Ramani Mangalika, Ineka Cooray, Irangani Rupasinghe, Manoj Mallawarachchi, H.P.M. Gunawardene, U.K. Upali, Narendra Silva, Renuka Perera, etc.

Over 1,000 athletes are expected to participate in this meet, which will include events for boys and girls in the categories under-12, under-14, under-16, under-18 and under-20.
