The Inland Revenue of Sri Lanka (IRD) has reported a tax revenue exceeding Rs. 200 billion in the month of November, a statement made by the Department of Government Information on its official Meta page yesterday (12) said.
“The expected income from the Inland Revenue Department was Rs. 232 billion, and the Department has managed to collect an income exceeding Rs. 200 billion rupees by 30 November,” the statement said.
The Department attributed the monthly revenue that exceeded Rs. 200 billion to the imposed excise duty on alcohol production under the Tobacco Tax Act.
The agencies had exceeded revenue targets during Q1 of 2024, according to the Department’s provisional data.
In August, the agency reported collecting 60% of its Rs. 2,024 billion target for the year. The target for the year was raised by 30% from the previous year’s Rs. 1, 550 billion.
