Bens-Wesley Luke Shield tomorrow

01 Mar 2024 | BY Muaard Razick

St. Benedict’s College and Wesley College will be battling it out for the Luke Shield on Saturday (2 March) at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium (P. Sara Oval) in continuing their 128-year brotherhood in the cricketing field. Last week the Benedictines clinched the prestigious Cartman Cup after winning the 2-day encounter by 45-runs to take home the silverware to Kotahena. Wesleyites made shocking yet sporting declaration when they were reeling at 122/8 and paved the path for a clear-cut result to be obtained in the Bens-Wesley series where a result was last seen in the 3rd term of 2017 where Thisuraka Akmeemana led the Wesleyites to victory. Tomorrow the Oval is expected to be filled to capacity with Wesley’s 150-year Sesquicentennial Walk set to conclude at the Oval whilst Thousands of Benedictine supporters will also be flocking to the age-old stadium which hosted Sri Lanka’s maiden test match. St. Benedict’s is led by Sri Lanka Under-19 cap Sharujan Shanmuganathan whilst the lads from Campbell Park are led by Sanithu Amarasinghe. Wesley will be looking for sweet revenge after their loss last year at the SSC and also they look to avenge their defeat in the Cartman Cup.
