The Election Commission (EC) said that the Gazette notification regarding the announcement of the Presidential Election date will be published today (26).

Issuing a statement in this regard, the EC said that during its meeting which was convened yesterday (25), the members of the EC had decided to publish the Extraordinary Gazette notification today, announcing the date of publishing the order for the Election of the President, the date and location of accepting nominations for the said Election and the date of the Presidential Election. The statement further stated that the EC is not responsible for the statements made by various individuals and parties regarding the date of the Presidential Election and other constitutional duties. 

The EC had convened a meeting yesterday to finalise the date for the upcoming Presidential Election and the date for the calling of nominations. 

The meeting, chaired by the EC Chairperson R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, was held to reach a final consensus on these crucial dates.

The EC had previously announced that the preliminary arrangements for conducting the Presidential Election have already been completed.
