The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for thunderstorms with severe lightning across several areas, including the Eastern, Uva, Central, and North-central provinces, as well as the Hambantota, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts.

Temporary localised strong winds are also expected during these thunderstorms.

Authorities urge the public to take precautions to minimise the risk of lightning-related damage and injuries.

People are advised to remain indoors during storms and avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and water bodies.

The public is also cautioned against using wired telephones or connected electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
