The National People’s Power (NPP) mayoral candidate for Colombo Vraie Cally Balthazaar was recently at the centre of controversy on social media following a statement made by her.

Balthazaar had stated during an online interview that she had not brought any new clothing items for her two children for the past three-and-a-half years and that she had only purchased a blouse for the whole of last year. She had explained that she exchanged clothes with her friends and that the same was applied to her children as well. This statement was subjected to criticism and various responses on social media.

However, one of the interesting statements was made by Vraie’s brother, Kris Balthazaar. Following the controversy over Vraie’s statement, Kris had stated on his social media that he wore new clothes.

Kris is a former councillor of the Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
