Election Commission issues voting guidelines ahead of LG polls

Election Commission issues voting guidelines ahead of LG polls

22 Apr 2025 | BY Staff Writer

The Election Commission (EC) has issued an official notice to all eligible electors and postal voters ahead of the Local Government (LG) Election scheduled for 6 May.

Each voter is entitled to one vote and will receive only one ballot paper at the polling station.

The ballot paper will display only the names and symbols of political parties, as well as the words “Independent Group” alongside the identification number and symbol of each independent group, with no mention of candidate names or ward numbers.

Voters are strictly instructed to cast their vote by marking a single cross (X) next to their preferred party or independent group.

The Commission warned that any additional marks on the ballot paper could be deemed as an attempt to reveal the voter’s identity, and such ballots may be rejected.
