Nippy scrum half, Oshan Gunarathne will lead the St. Anthony’s College, Kandy rugby outfit in 2024. He will have Ravindu Welagedera as his deputy. Last year (2023) the Antonians led by kicking genius Sahan Keerthisiri had one of their most successful seasons after more than a decade by finishing at top-4 in the ‘A’ Division League by qualifying to the cup championship along with St. Peter’s, Isipathana, and Royal.
The outfit is coached by former Kingswood, Navy SC, and national player, Achala Perera with former Isipathana, Kandy SC, and national sevens and fifteens player, Srinarth Sooriyabandara looking after the backs and in charge as the trainer as well.
The junior coaching staff are Pavithra de Silva (Under-16), Prasad Chathuranga (Under-14), Akash Polwatte and Danujaya Senevirathne (both Under-12).
St. Anthony’s took up the oval ball game in the 1950’s and have been a dominant force in the schools arena. They rose to the pinnacle in 2001 when they clinched their maiden Inter-school Rugby League Championship.
