Customs officers have arrested an Indian passenger, who arrived in the island from Malaysia, at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, for attempting to smuggle a large consignment of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) into the country.
Customs officials have discovered one kilogram of ‘Ice’ hidden within sarees which were in the possession of the Indian national, who arrived from Malaysia onboard flight UL 315.
The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs. 25 million, according to the Customs.
The suspect and the consignment of drugs have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
