- Rauff Hakeem seeks PSC to probe Covid-19 cremations and make recomms.
A number of private Member motions have been presented to the Parliament on a range of matters including the acquisition of estate roads to the Government, the preparation of a proper procurement programme for the process of purchasing goods for cooperatives, making arrangements for maintaining a rice reserve with the Government, the abolition of the pension scheme of Parliamentarians, and probing the cremation of the bodies of the Covid-19 pandemic victims.
These motions are to be debated from 11.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 7 February.
The motion on the acquisition of estate roads to the Government has been presented by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Opposition MP Hesha Withanage, the motion on the preparation of a proper procurement programme for the process of purchasing goods for cooperatives has been presented by SJB MP Kins Nelson, the motion on making arrangements for maintaining a rice reserve with the Government has been presented by SJB MP Rohana Bandara, the motion on the formulation of a proper methodology for the appointment of Labour Welfare Officers has been presented by SJB MP Chaminda Wijesiri, the motion on the abolishing of the pension scheme of MPs has been presented by New Democratic Front Opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake and the motion on appointing a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to investigate and make appropriate recommendations regarding the cremation, instead of burial, of the bodies of Covid-19 pandemic victims has been presented by SJB MP, attorney Rauff Hakeem.
