Those who keep demanding solutions to the issues surrounding the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks are seeking action not only to penalise those who are responsible for the attacks, but also to prevent the possibility of a similar catastrophe occurring in the future, the main Parliamentary Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), said yesterday (2).
SJB Parliamentarian Dr. Kavinda Heshan Jayawardhana, during a press briefing, said that therefore, those who insult Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith should stop that, because he and the Catholic community are asking for solutions to injustices faced by the entire country, and not only them.
He added that the Government is in a position to do more than what it is doing at present in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, and that there are a number of steps it is yet to pay attention to. He made these remarks while discussing Government MPs’ responses during the recent debate on the Easter Sunday attacks, where he asked those MPs not to confine the Easter Sunday attacks to the Catholic community. He pointed out that when the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura and the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy were attacked, those attacks were condemned by everyone alike.
Five years following the Easter Sunday attacks, last month (April), a debate was held in Parliament on the attacks.
