JVP to continue politics under NPP

17 Aug 2020

By Sarah Hannan
Member of Parliament and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the party will continue to contest under the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (National People’s Power – NPP) alliance in upcoming elections. “The NPP is in essence a societal association that comprises several political parties, civil societies, and academic personalities working together to establish a cultured society. This societal association strives to establish a stable economy that is independent and unbiased. Which is why we have decided to continue contesting under the compass sign from the NPP in every election going forward,” Dissanayake added. The NPP was launched in July 2019 with the participation of progressive intellectuals, professionals, social activists, artists, and religious leaders with the vision to change the deteriorating political culture that would be responsible for the masses, giving them the opportunity to question the people’s representatives and contend to protect the democratic rights of all citizens.
