Four suspects have been arrested for attempting to illegally capture close-up photos of the tusker ‘Agbo ’ using a drone camera.
The arrested suspects were identified as residents of Kumbukweva, Meethotamulla, Anuradhapura Kurundankulam and Gampaha.
Agbo the elephant who was treated under the care of Wildlife Department surgeons for months for a critical gunshot injury on its front leg was later released to the jungle and is currently frequent in the Tirappane area.
Police had arrived at the location where the group of youths was trying to take close-up pictures of Agbo using a drone camera based on information that was received from the public and through the Sri Lanka Air Force Intelligence Division that a suspicious drone had been spotted in the Tirappane area.
