More than 625 tonnes of waste were brought to the Gohagoda landfill following the 10-day Siri Dalada Vandanawa exposition in Kandy. 

Municipal officials plan to incinerate the waste with help from the Colombo Municipal Council. 

The event, which drew thousands of devotees, further strained the city’s already challenged waste management system.
