The Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Tournament, which was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium for three days, ended yesterday (5). Fifteen athletes who showed outstanding performances in the tournament were awarded scholarships from Ritzbury.

Ave Maria Convent Negombo won the overall girls' championship whilst Royal College Colombo clinched the overall boys' championship..

A.D. Nethsara of Lyceum International School Wattala – who cleared 5.64m in the under-14 long jump event – won the Best Athlete (girls) title and S. Pribasith of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School – who cleared 1.90m in the under-15 high jump event – won the Best Athlete (boys) title. 

P. Kaushya of Lyceum Wattala – who finished the under-15 400m girls’ event in 58.64 seconds – won the award for the overall (male/female) best 400m athlete. The award for the overall best long-jumper, too, went to Nethsara.

The most sought-after relay championships were won by Royal College Colombo (boys) and Carmel Girls’ College Chilaw (girls).

The closing ceremony of the tourney was presided over by Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association (SLSAA) President Kusala Fernando, SLSAA Secretary Nimal Madhusinghe, and Ceylon Biscuit Limited Manager – Ritzbury Aruna Liyanapathirana.
