President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday (30) stated that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is making efforts to identify the group of people responsible for the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks before 21 April.
Speaking at a National People’s Power (NPP) rally yesterday (30), the President said that CID investigators are currently working to expose a group allegedly behind the attacks.
The President noted that the Government does not have the power to penalise those who committed corruption and crime, but it can bring them to justice through proper investigations. “A Government has no power to penalise people. However, we can lead the CID and the Commission to Investigate Bribery and Corruption to conduct investigations. Then, the Attorney General’s Department can prosecute based on the information revealed. After the case is filed, our work is done. The Judiciary should then hear the case properly and make a decision. We are doing our part. Many investigations have been launched into not only corruption but also crimes. As we commemorate the Easter Sunday attack on the 21st, CID officials are currently working to expose the group allegedly behind the attacks before 21 April,” he said.
