A Chinese national was recently taken into custody by the Police and the Special Task Force (STF) in the Wellampitiya area for allegedly brewing illegal moonshine (kasippu). The raid had been conducted by the Police following a tip-off.

The Chinese national has been brewing illicit liquor at the house where he was living on rent in the Brandiyawatta area in Wellampitiya. The suspect had served as an engineer at the Lotus Tower project in Colombo.

At the time he was taken into custody, the Chinese national had been in possession of 67,500 litres of illicit liquor. The Wellampitiya Police is conducting further investigations.
